Belfast Veterinary Care is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian Ophthalmologist to join our specialised team. As a pivotal member of our practice, you will lead our ophthalmology department, providing exceptional care to our animal patients. The ideal candidate will possess advanced qualifications in veterinary ophthalmology, including board certification or eligibility. Responsibilities will include diagnosing and treating a variety of ocular conditions and diseases in companion animals, from routine eye exams to complex surgical interventions.

 

Additionally, you will collaborate closely with our general practitioners and other specialists to ensure comprehensive and integrated healthcare for our patients. Strong communication skills are essential as you will be educating pet owners on treatment options and providing compassionate support throughout the care process. Criteria

Essential Criteria:

  • Advanced Qualification:

    • Hold a Certificate, Diploma or equivalent degree in Small Animal Ophthalmology from a recognised veterinary body.

  • Clinical Experience:

    • Demonstrated extensive clinical experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of ophthalmic conditions in various animal species.

  • Surgical Skills:

    • Proficient in performing ophthalmic surgeries including but not limited to cataract removal, corneal grafting, and eyelid reconstruction.

  • Advanced Diagnostic Techniques:

    • Skilled in utilising advanced diagnostic tools such as ophthalmic ultrasound and CT.

  • Continuing Education:

    • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development through participation in conferences, workshops, and advanced training programs.

  • Collaborative Skills:

    • Ability to collaborate effectively with other specialists (e.g., internal medicine, surgery) for comprehensive patient care.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Leadership and Teaching:

    • Experience in teaching and mentoring veterinary students, interns, and residents in ophthalmology.

  • Specialised Residency Training:

    • Complete a recognised residency program in small animal ophthalmology.

  • Specialised Areas of Interest:

    • Specialisation or advanced training in specific areas such as neuro-ophthalmology, ocular oncology, or inherited eye diseases.

  • Research and Publications:

    • Engaged in research activities related to veterinary ophthalmology and published in peer-reviewed journals.

  • Involvement in Professional Organisations:

    • Active participation in professional organisations related to veterinary ophthalmology, holding leadership positions or committee roles.

  • Innovative Approaches:

    • Known for adopting innovative approaches and technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of ophthalmic conditions in animals.
