Belfast Veterinary Care is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Veterinarian Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our team. As a key member of our practice, you will be responsible for providing advanced orthopaedic care to our patients. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Veterinary Surgeon, with specialised training and certification in Orthopaedic Surgery. Your primary duties will include diagnosing and treating complex orthopaedic conditions in companion animals, utilising advanced surgical techniques and technologies. You will collaborate closely with our veterinary team to ensure comprehensive care for each patient, providing expertise in areas such as fracture repair, joint stabilisation, and corrective osteotomies.

 

Additionally, you will contribute to ongoing education and training within the practice, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. Strong communication skills and a compassionate approach are essential, as you will interact with pet owners to explain treatment plans and provide post-operative care instructions. Criteria

Essential Criteria :

  • Advanced Qualification:

    • Hold a Certificate, Diploma or equivalent degree in Small Animal Orthopaedics from a recognised veterinary body

  • Clinical Experience:

    • Have significant clinical experience in veterinary orthopaedics, including diagnosing and treating a wide range of orthopaedic conditions in small animals.

  • Surgical Skills:

    • Demonstrate advanced surgical skills in orthopaedic procedures such as fracture repair, joint stabilisation, corrective osteotomies, and joint replacement surgeries.

  • Experience with Advanced Imaging:

    • Proficiency in interpreting advanced imaging modalities like CT scans and MRI for accurate diagnosis and surgical planning.

  • Continuing Education:

    • Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional development through attendance at conferences, courses, and seminars related to veterinary orthopaedics.

  • Leadership and Teaching Skills:

    • Ability to lead a surgical team and mentor residents and interns in orthopaedic surgery techniques.

  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration:

    • Experience working collaboratively with other specialists such as radiologists, anaesthesiologists, and rehabilitation therapists for comprehensive patient care.

  • Strong Communication Skills:

    • Effective communication with clients, referring veterinarians, and other stakeholders regarding treatment plans and postoperative care for orthopaedic cases.

Desirable Criteria :

  • Advanced Training:

    • Additional training in a specific area of orthopaedics, such as sports medicine or minimally invasive techniques.

  • Specialised Residency Training:

    • Complete a recognised residency program in small animal surgery, specifically focusing on orthopaedics.

  • Research and Publications:

    • Contribute to the field through research activities and publications in veterinary orthopaedics.

  • Involvement in Professional Organisations:

    • Active involvement in professional organisations related to veterinary orthopaedics, contributing to advancements in the field.

  • Innovation and Development:

    • Engagement in innovative approaches to orthopaedic surgery, such as novel implant design or techniques, for improved patient outcomes.
