Criteria

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience:

    • Demonstrable experience in veterinary medicine, specifically in pain management and geriatric care.

  • Knowledge of Veterinary Pharmacology:

    • Proficiency in pharmacological approaches to pain management in animals, including familiarity with analgesic drugs and protocols.

  • Diagnostic Skills:

    • Ability to diagnose and treat complex medical conditions commonly seen in geriatric patients.

  • Compassionate Care:

    • Strong empathy and compassion for elderly animals and their owners.

  • Communication Skills:

    • Excellent communication skills to effectively discuss treatment plans and prognosis with pet owners.

  • Collaborative Team Player:

    • Ability to work well within a team environment, coordinating care with other veterinarians and support staff.

  • Commitment to Continuing Education:

    • Willingness to stay updated on the latest advancements in veterinary pain management and geriatric medicine.

  • Client Education:

    • Skills in educating pet owners about managing chronic pain and age-related conditions in pets.

  • Software Proficiency:

    • Familiarity with veterinary practice management software for efficient record-keeping and communication.

  • Innovative Thinking:

    • Ability to implement new techniques or protocols for pain relief in geriatric animals.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Advanced Training:

    • Additional coursework or certifications in multi-modal care including physical therapy, or alternative pain management techniques.

  • Surgical Experience:

    • Experience in orthopaedic or soft tissue surgery related to pain management.

  • Multidisciplinary Approach:

    • Experience collaborating with specialists (e.g., neurologists, oncologists) to provide comprehensive care for geriatric patients.

  • Advanced Qualifications:

    • Certification or postgraduate training in pain management or geriatric medicine.

  • Leadership Experience:

    • Past roles demonstrating leadership, such as leading pain management initiatives or mentoring junior veterinarians.
